Each student in grades 9, 10, and 11 is required to participate in Darlington’s athletic and/or fine arts programs. Students who participate in the school’s year-round athletic academies or Arts Academy already meet this commitment. Students not involved in the programs listed above will be required to participate in two separate group activities during the school year.
At the start of the school year, each student will be required to sign up for two activities. Exceptions to this policy will be handled on an individual basis through the Student Life Office. Students will be expected to communicate directly with their program director when they will miss their commitment and with the Student Life Office if they switch after-school programs.
When students are not participating in one of our many extracurricular activities, it is Darlington’s hope that they will spend their afternoons preparing for their academic endeavors or participating in the school’s Servant Leadership Program.
Note that all Upper School students are required to complete 15 hours of community service for each year enrolled in Darlington's Upper School. Students may meet this requirement by participating in school-sponsored servant leadership opportunities after school and on weekends. Students may also accumulate hours of service through non-school-related opportunities as long as they provide documentation from the organization served. Questions about servant leadership and documentation for hours served may be emailed to the Director of Servant Leadership.
