IMPORTANT Information Regarding On Site Physicals for all Students
On May 19 and 20, Floyd Medical Center will be on campus at the Huffman Center to offer all rising 9th grade – 12th grade students the opportunity to receive their Darlington Physical Exam . The schedule is as follows:

Monday, May 19 – 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. ALL BOYS
Rising 9th Graders begin at 5:30 p.m.
Rising 10th Graders begin at 6:15 p.m.
Rising 11th Graders begin at 7 p.m.
Rising 12th Graders begin at 7:30 p.m.

Tuesday, May 20 – 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. ALL GIRLS
Rising 9th Graders begin at 5:30 p.m.
Rising 10th Graders begin at 6:15 p.m.
Rising 11th Graders begin at 7 p.m.
Rising 12th Graders begin at 7:30 p.m.

Parents are receiving this information by email.  Please be sure to print and sign the parent consent form for your child to bring with them.

Day students are encouraged to come to the early appointment times as resident students will be coming in after 7 p.m.

We had a great day at the Open Door Home for our final birthday party of the year. Complete with birthday cake, ice cream and art work with Ms. Burns’ guidance. Thanks to Elise, Sasha, Mark, Wiebke, Ming-Ging, Cha-ame, Matthew, Will, Bonnie, Aliya, Meredith, Ali, Anna, Chelsea, John, Ebony, Rachel, Cait, Evan, Katie Mullen, Stephanie, Lacey, Katie Powers, Kate, Tim, Mrs. Burns and Mrs. Dodd. We are really going to miss seeing the children over the summer!

Darlington Book Store Closing Date
The Book Store will close for the school year at 2:30 pm on Tuesday, May 27th. No purchases will be allowed after that day due to inventory counting.

Varsity Softball Meeting Thursday
There will be an informal meeting during break on Thursday, May 15, 2008 in Mr. Pieroni’s room for all students interested in playing Varsity Softball for the 08-09 season. Please email Coach Puckett if you are unable to attend.

Darlington Crew End of Year Open House
All Crew Team members, their families, and anyone interested in the Crew Team are invited to attend  the End of the Year Open House Cookout, Friday, May 16th @ 6:30pm.  The Open House will give everyone the opportunity to meet the coaches, row the river, meet the crew team and the chance to WIN two white water rafting passes for the Ocoee!!  Don't miss out.  A sign up sheet is available in the MS front office.

Honors Day Attendance and Seating
As with any assembly or chapel gathering, students at Honors Day on Friday are expected to sit with their advisers in their assigned rows so that advisers can check them in.  Advisors please communicate this expectation of required attendance to your advisees and let them know that you will be assessing a penalty if they are deliberately absent. Seniors have already been told that their attendance is also mandatory. If seating is cramped, have your advisees check in with you and find a seat elsewhere, or squeeze in. We will have 80 chairs in the front of the Chapel to accommodate guests.

Exam Preparation Help
EXAM preparation starts now (if it hasn't already!). Your teachers are working hard to make sure you finish the trimester strong, so do your part too! If you want extra help reviewing and organizing for exams, come work with Mrs. Bonnyman and Mr. Trotter on Sunday, May 18th from 1-3. They will be available in The Learning Center and are happy to help those who want to help themselves! See you May 18th from 1-3!

2007-2008 Peer Mentors and Tutors
There are few opportunities left in the school year for you to help peers study and learn! Please consider helping your peers review for exams on Monday, May 26th from 1-3. If you are available for one or both of those hours, please contact Mrs. Zimmer (lzimmer@darlingtonschool.org). Your help is appreciated!

LIBRARY NOTICE
All Library books are due back by Monday, May 19th. If you have any overdue books you will not be able to take your exams.

GUITAR ENSEMBLE:
A new offering next year for intermediate to advanced players. If you are interested, stop by Mrs. Rudert's office and sign up! Prerequisite: Basic understanding of guitar tab.

ATTENTION PARENTS: It's Auction Time!
The Parents Association still has up for auction two parking spaces in Trippeer parking lot.  The proceeds from this auction will help provide needed funding for various school activities. 

These 2 parking spaces are for the student to park in Trippeer next school year.  No walking from the Huffman..saves time and when it rains it's wonderful!  Send bids to Gin Gunther at gingun5@bellsouth.net.  Your generosity will be appreciated!

School Uniform Announcement
The last day for upper school students 9th thru 11th to wear uniforms will be Wednesday May 14th in order to prepare for the uniform buy-back.

AP European History for Next Year Meeting
All students wishing to take AP European History meet with Mr. Schmidt in his classroom (Room 22) during break Thursday, May 15.

Student Support Team/Peer Educators
If you are interested in becoming a peer educator with the Student Support Team please pick up an application in Mrs. Pate’s office. Applications are due Friday, May 16.

Baseball Banquet
The Baseball banquet will be on Thursday, May 15th, in the DBR at 6:30. Parents are invited. The cost for parents and siblings is $10.  Players that do not show up will not receive anything given out at the banquet.

Class Attendance During AP Exams
Students are only excused from classes when they are in the exam room taking an AP exam. You will need to attend all other classes. You may eat lunch during 4th period if you have an afternoon AP exam.

Summer Reading Book
The required summer reading book, "The Good Earth" by Pearl Buck, is now on sale in the book store. The cost of the book is $13 and may be white slipped.

PARENTS ASSOCIATION USED UNIFORM SALE
The Darlington Parents Association is pleased to sponsor a Uniform Resale as a service to parents of Middle and Upper School students.  You as the contributor will receive 60% of the sale price and the Parents Association will receive 40%.  Money raised will support activities for all Middle and Upper School students.

The Drop-off and Sale will take place in the OLD GYM.  Payment by check is preferred and no credit cards will be accepted.  Please be sure to download and read the entire Sale Guidelines.pdf (3 pages).

Drivers Education Summer Program - update
Sign-up forms are available for the Floyd County Board of Education Drivers Ed Summer Program. Darlington students have been assigned Week 3, June 9-13, and will be limited to the first 23 students.  Week 4, June 16-20, will be available for additional Darlington students.  Please come to the Student Life Office for more information and sign-up forms.

Servant Leadership Opportunities
Monday leaving the Library steps @ 3:45. McHenry Elementary to help with their after-school care program. This will be our last time at McHenry this school year. We will be playing games and helping with homework. We should be back to campus by 5:30pm. If you are not in the Servant Leadership ASA you must RSVP to Mrs. Barnes rbarnes@darlingtonschool.org before noon on Mondays to reserve your spot. Mrs. Brewer and Ms. Cooke will be the chaperones for this event.

Tuesday Open Door Birthday Party -Leaving the Library steps @ 3:45 and we should be back to campus by 5:30. If you are not in Servant Leader ASA you must RSVP to Mrs. Barnes rbarnes@darlingtonschool.org by Monday, May 12th to reserve you spot. This will be our last event at Open Door this school year. Mrs. Burns will be with us and helping with special activities. Mrs. Barnes and Mrs. Dodd and Mrs. Burns will be the adult chaperones for this event.

SUMMER Opportunities:
Mercy Senior Care – Positions for Junior volunteers (ages 13-18) to work 1-2 days per week for 2-4 hours. Mercy Senior Care is an adult day health program serving older adults. Daily activities include exercise, music, arts and crafts, board games and bingo. If you are a friend would like to pair up to volunteer, the “buddy system” is welcomed. Volunteers will need to submit immunization records and verification of normal TB skin test or normal check x-ray with the past year. There will be an orientation meeting and tour of the facility to get you familiar with the program. For more information please contact Mrs. Barnes rbarnes@darlingtonschool.org
