On Aug. 17, 2009, Darlington’s Middle School students officially began a new year in a new building. As is tradition, students and faculty gathered around the flagpole to begin the day by reciting, “I am and always will be an honorable person, and will treat others with kindness and respect,” followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
The crowd then moved to the amphitheater area to hear opening thoughts from City of Rome Mayor Wright Bagby (’63); Al Hodge, CEO of the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce; and Frank Stegall (’62), chairman of Darlington’s Board of Trustees. Following their remarks, students from each grade held the ceremonial purple ribbon while Van Es and Stegall cut it to officially open the new Middle School.
This new, cutting-edge facility complies with U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards. We have created a learning environment that is sustainable and healthy. Click here to learn more about Darlington’s new building
So, where do we stand with funding on this project? There are still unnamed spaces in the new building, and our Second Century Campaign team is available to discuss what you can do to help. We look forward to hearing from you.
