Technology in the Classroom

May 7, 2013 | 849 views

Over two years ago, a large group of Darlington teachers began work on a plan for better integrating technology into the classroom. What developed, though, was a vision for teaching focused on the needs of a new generation of learners. Students now require, more than ever, abilities like critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, and innovation, expressed through an advanced set of skills involving technology, media, and information.

To make that happen, Darlington committed to making technology more available to teachers and students by putting a personal device in everyone’s hands. In grades four through six, students have a school-issued iPad tablet and students in grades seven through nine have a school-issued MacBook laptop. That program will be grown to include the entire Upper School.

With these tools in hand, we have developed a 21st century skills curriculum that is being blended into the existing curriculum instead of taught separately. Our teachers have focused their professional development and class planning on integrating these two things seamlessly into the learning process they architect for their students. Darlington will continue to work toward this vision, but these photos and captions show how much our students and teachers have already accomplished.

This photo essay illustrates how much Darlington students and teachers have already accomplished when it comes to integrating technology into all of their classes.
