Tara Inman, Darlington's dean of students for global education, is one of six educators from around the country to be named to the National Association of Independent Schools Global Ambassadors Advisory Working Group.

"This advisory role is affirming of the work that I've been doing in education for more than 20 years," said Inman. "The more I've gotten into this position, the more I realize that there is so much more to learn about international students. As I connect with other educators at conferences and through organizations like NAIS, I realize that I am not alone. Being a part of this working group will give me an opportunity to help answer some important questions for independent schools as it relates to international students and education."

The objectives of the NAIS Global Ambassadors are as follows:

  • Serve in an advisory role to NAIS on trends, emerging markets and topics related to international students.
  • Engage the NAIS Connect community in discussions related to international students.
  • Serve as a resource to NAIS member schools.
  • Create and share resources and best practices.
  • Conduct discovery conversations with colleagues from independent schools.
  • Develop Advisory Briefs or How-to-Guides related to international student topics including regulatory compliance/visa regulations, recruitment/admissions/enrollment, and homestays/residential life.
  • Present online webinars and workshops at NAIS conferences.
Promote independent schools to international families through possibly creating resources specific to that market.
  • Advocate for international students through a variety of means: social media, NAIS Connect, articles, blogs, Inspiration Lab, etc.
Promote global education approaches, mindsets, competencies, programs and skills-building.

Inman joined Darlington's student life team in 2002 and was named dean of students for global education in 2016. Previously, she held the roles of director of ESL, spiritual life coordinator and head of house. Inman holds a B.A. and an M.A.T., both from Carson-Newman College. She and her husband Brian, an Upper School history teacher, live on campus with their children, Maggie ('19), Davis ('23), Wesley ('23) and Harrison ('26).

As dean of students for global education, Inman supports the day-to-day needs of international students and families, serves as a college adviser specializing in advising international students and international student-athletes, is a member of the Admission Committee, and partners with the Advancement Office to steward relationships with current international families and international alumni. She is also responsible for an optional two-week early orientation program for new international students.
