Chris Williams has been hired to serve as director of operations for Coosa Junior Golf Academy. He holds a B.Ed. in Physical Education and Fitness Management from The University of Memphis and has nearly three decades of experience working in independent school and collegiate athletics.

“We are thrilled that Chris and his wife Lindy, our new Director of Enrollment Management, have joined the Darlington Community,” said Beth Pollard, assistant head of school for business and operations. “His extensive golf experience will enhance our golf academy and benefit our players.”

Williams’ dad introduced him to golf at a young age and he has remained passionate about the sport throughout his life and career.

“I was 7 years old when I started playing,” recalled Williams. “In the summer my dad would drop me off at the course first thing in the morning and I would play all day. All of my friends were spending their time at the pool, but I just loved being on the course. The best part of the day was when my dad would come out after work and we’d play until dark. I won my first tournament at the age of 8 and I was hooked.”

Most recently, Williams led the golf program and served as uniform and equipment coordinator for the entire athletic program at Collegiate School (Va.) As a coach at Collegiate, he led the team to its first state golf championship in 2012. He was named State Golf Coach of the Year by the Virginia Independent School Athletic Association in 2012 and received the State Sportsmanship Team Award in 2013, 2015, and 2016. Williams is also a three-time Prep League Golf Coach of the Year (2013, 2015 and 2017).

Williams looks forward to getting started with the golfers in the Coosa Junior Golf Academy.

“I have a passion for the game of golf and working with student athletes and I am excited about sharing my knowledge with the Academy golfers,” said Williams. “I look forward to the opportunity to work with the students and share my passion for the game. We'll not only build on their strengths, but also discover areas of improvement all while learning life lessons through the sport. I want everyone to have a first-rate experience while also having some fun along the way.”

Williams enjoys spending time with his family, playing a round of golf, attending sporting events and cheering for the Tigers (Darlington, Auburn and Memphis). He and his wife, Lindy, have one daughter, Alister, who is a senior at Auburn University. They also have two rescue dogs, Bodhi and Lily.
