Darlington Board of Trustees elects new member, names 2 life trustees

During the May meeting of the Board of Trustees, Kevin Evans (’87, LD ’14) joined the governing body, while Dick Cornwell (’67) and John Hunter (’55) were named life trustees. 

Evans is owner and president of Evans Construction Co in Silver Creek, Ga. A graduate of Leadership Darlington, he has served the school through the Alumni Council, Annual Fund Board, Second Century Campaign Cabinet, and the Fine Arts and Athletic Booster Clubs. He is also a member of the J.J. Darlington Society. Kevin is the father of Lindsey (’12) and Keara (’16).

Cornwell is president of Spangler Companies Inc. His service to the school includes the Board of Trustees, the Second Century Campaign National Cabinet and the Campaign for Darlington Committee. He is a Visitor Emeritus and member of the J. Daniel Hanks Sr. ('27) Heritage Society and the J.J. Darlington Society. He has also hosted many events for the school. The Cornwell family established The Cornwell Scholarship for North Carolina boarding students as well as The Cornwell Faculty Award for faculty professional development. Dick and his wife, Jean, live in Charlotte, N.C. 

Hunter is retired managing director of EXNET. He has served the school as a trustee, class agent and frequent event host. He is also a member of the J.J. Darlington Society and the J. Daniel Hanks Sr. ('27) Heritage Society. During the 100th anniversary of the founding of Darlington’s Honor Code, Hunter participated in an Alumni Weekend panel along with other former Honor Council presidents. John and his wife, Betsy, live in New York City.
