Darlington to host blood drive in Paul Grady’s memory

Darlington School will host a blood drive on Thursday, Feb. 23 in memory of Paul Grady. The Blood Assurance Blood Vessel will be located at the steps of the McCallie-Kennedy Upper School Library from 2 to 7 p.m. for those who wish to donate.

Grady served as a painting contractor for the school through Advance Facility Services for just over two years and passed away on Jan. 4.

"All of the men and women who work on this campus are part of our community.  They are important to our students and to all of us who live and work here,” stated Brent Bell, Darlington's head of school. “Paul was a presence, he knew people’s names, he was always in a good mood, and he took pride in his work.  When someone mentioned ‘Paul the Painter,’ everyone immediately knew who you were talking about, and that the job would be well done."

Grady’s colleagues agree.

“It’s hard to put into a few words the kind of man that Paul was,” reflected Scott Morris, locksmith for Advance Facility Services. “I’ll say that he was a man of tremendous integrity and a huge Atlanta Falcons fan.  He was a character and a lot of fun to be around.”

Advance Facility Services HVAC technician Larry Looney agreed. “Paul was a professional, honest and hardworking guy. He loved his wife, children and family and was always family-oriented in all that he did.”

Those wishing to give blood in Grady’s name must be 16 years or older; 16-year-olds must have written consent from a parent or guardian.  Those wishing to sign up in advance can do so by contacting Servant Leadership Director Reba Barnes.
