Moss (’63) selected to serve on Georgia College Advisory Board

Darlington School’s Dean of College Guidance Sam Moss ('63) has been nominated to serve on Georgia College's inaugural High School Counselor Advisory Board. Comprised of high school guidance counselors, this board advises the Office of Admissions on various issues related to the college admission process and recruitment.

Moss is a past president of the Southern Association for College Admission Counseling (SACAC) and, in 2014, he was honored by the organization for his service to the association and to the college admissions profession. He was also the first person to be appointed to the position of SACAC board advisor.

In addition to his positions in SACAC, Moss has served on the national level on the Board of Directors and on the Executive Committee of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), the NACAC Admissions Practices Committee, the NACAC Governance and Nominating Committee, and also chaired the NACAC Ad Hoc Committee on Assembly Structure, which revised the governing structure of the organization. 

For his service to both organizations, Moss has received the Larry West Award (SACAC) and the Margaret Addis Award (NACAC).

A past chairman of the board of trustees of the Association of College Counselors in Independent Schools (ACCIS), Moss has also served on the National Merit Scholarship Selection Committee, The College Board Southern Regional Council, and on the admissions advisory board of Oglethorpe University, Auburn University, the University of Georgia, and the University of Miami.

Locally, he has served on the board of directors of the South Rome Redevelopment Corporation (past chairman) and the Rome Symphony Orchestra.

Moss is a 1963 graduate of Darlington School, and received his Bachelor of Arts from Sewanee: the University of the South and his Master of Arts from Jacksonville University. He completed additional studies at Oxford University.
