Hunter Manning ('16)

Senior Hunter Manning has been nominated to represent Darlington in the Rome Noon Optimist Club Student of the Year competition in the All-Around Student category.

A native of Rome, the AP Scholar with Honor serves as president of Honor Council and vice president of Student Council, and is a member of the “Y” Cabinet and Admission Tiger Expert team. Manning is a four-year member of the football and lacrosse teams, in both of which he has lettered and received Scholar-Athlete awards.

"Hunter finds success in the classroom, on the playing field, and in many areas of student life," said Upper School director Matthew Peer in his letter of recommendation. "He cares about the community that he is a part of, and he has given much of himself in his time here."

In 2015, the senior was honored as one of only two students chosen to serve on Darlington's Strategic Planning Steering Committee. Manning has extensive volunteer experience serving at the Rome Community Kitchen, Rome Action Ministries, Boys & Girls Club, and at First Presbyterian Church of Rome.

To date, he has been accepted to the University of Georgia and Birmingham-Southern College, where he has been offered the highest merit-based scholarship available to students.

Hunter Manning is the son of Susi and Tommy Manning of Rome.

Winners of the competition will be announced at the Student of the Year Banquet on Tuesday, March 22, at 6 p.m. at the Coosa Country Club.
