Warp Trio to perform concert at Morris Chapel on Sunday

Darlington School will welcome the New York City-based Warp Trio to campus on Sunday, Feb. 21, for a special concert in Morris Chapel at 6:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The group, comprised of Mikael Darmanie (piano), Josh Henderson (violin) and Ju Young Lee (cello), perform classical works infused with jazz and their own cross-genre original material. Part chamber music ensemble, part rock band, part art project, the Warp Trio incorporates interdisciplinary collaborations and eclectic programming into their own unique impressions of different classical selections, pop music and improv, creating an unmatched concert experience.

"The music is going to be different from other groups that we've had in the past. Because the artists in Warp Trio are younger, they will connect in a special way with our students," said Kim Tunnell, Darlington's director of fine arts. "It's a great opportunity for us to host an interesting musical movement that has become very popular."

On Monday, members of Warp Trio will share their experiences and work alongside students in Upper School instrumental classes and with students during the middle grades' art block period. The group's two-day visit is a part of the Darlington fine arts department's 21st Century Artist program, funded by the school's Wood Faculty Professional Development Endowment Award.

"Students will see performers who have finished their studies and are making a living as an artist—and all of the opportunities and challenges that come with being a musician," added Tunnell. "It will provide another connection point to classical music for our students, and help make it relevant to the contemporary tunes they already enjoy."

Parking for the event is available in the Trippeer parking lot off of Tiger Way through Darlington's main entrance. For more information, contact Kim Tunnell at ktunnell@darlingtonschool.org.
