Darlington advances to next round in quiz bowl

A team of four students from Darlington's Upper School division won big on "High Q" during last week's taping at the WSB-TV studios in Atlanta. Will Crawford ('16), Dawson Horah ('16), Dylan Paracka ('16), and Mary Margaret Wright ('16) made up the group of young scholars that beat Atlanta Jewish Academy, 420 to 100.

The television show features a quiz bowl format that pits metropolitan Atlanta high school teams against one another each week, as they work their way through the bracket until just two teams are left.

"There was a very strong showing by all players. I selected the team based on teacher recommendations, student interest and my perception of their particular value to the team as a whole," said teacher Chris Babb. "With most academic-based competitions, upperclassmen have a distinct advantage from having been exposed to more information as students."

Also attending the tournament were Gabby Jones ('18) and Tejas Reddy ('19), who served as alternates.

"I was glad that I had teammates who were so smart," said Dylan Paracka. "We all had an area that we really excelled in—history, math, science, literature—and then we all had some random facts that we knew."

The matchup will be aired on Sunday, Jan. 17, at 1 p.m. on Atlanta's Channel 2. Darlington's next match will take place on Feb. 24, with a broadcast date set for March.
