Kim Perkins has been named ELA-8 library paraprofessional at Darlington School. She is no stranger to Darlington, having served as an ELA-2 and Upper School substitute teacher, and as co-chair of ELA-8 TIGER Pride's Community Committee during the 2014-15 school year. She has also filled in at Extended Day, in the bookstore and at the switchboard.

Originally from New Palestine, Ind., she holds a B.A. in Speech and Hearing Sciences from Indiana University and an M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology from East Tennessee State University.

“With my literacy and language background, I can bring strategies and interesting lessons for our students during their time in the library,” said Perkins. “I look forward to fueling that fire and passion in kids for reading and becoming a lifelong learner outside of school.”

Before moving to Georgia, Perkins spent 11 years as a speech-language pathologist at New Palestine Elementary School, providing diagnostic and treatment services for children. She holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech–Language–Hearing Association.

“Literacy opens up education," said Perkins. "I enjoy being a part of the learning experience, teaching students new things, and seeing the excitement when they catch something new."

In her free time, Perkins enjoys reading, biking, doing things outdoors and spending time with family. She and her family attend Hollywood Baptist Church.

Perkins and her husband of 17 years, Derek, Darlington's director of admission, are the parents of Kathleen ('22) and Elisabeth ('25) and live on campus.

“What makes Darlington so special is the community and the opportunities within the School,” said Perkins. “It has been wonderful for the girls.”
