Darlington School sous-chef Melanie Eason will be returning to work next month following her recovery from donating a kidney to her stepfather, Andy Morris.
“What made me decide to do it?” said Eason. “My dad needed a kidney so that was just the way it goes."
Eason had watched her stepfather go through dialysis for several years, so she decided to find out how she might be able to help.
She was the perfect match, and soon Morris received her left kidney during a successful transplant surgery at the
University of Alabama-Birmingham Hospital on May 14.
Both Morris and Eason will continue to rest and recover over the summer. The sous-chef plans to return to Darlington in late July.
