Becca Wood joined the Darlington Community as administrative assistant to the Advancement Office on March 23.

Wood came to Darlington from the Rome-Floyd Parks & Recreation Authority, where she served as the program coordinator. In her former position, she was responsible for securing sponsorships for special events and different programs, as well as establishing relationships with civic groups and other organizations in the Rome-Floyd County area.

She was also in charge of planning and executing a wide variety of recreational activities like Kick Start Soccer and flag football. Her work was frequently seen in the community through the organization's signature 5K races, including the Leprechaun-a-thon, Color Me Free and the Zombie-thon.

Having worked with different non-profits, Wood was primed and ready to accept her new position at Darlington.

“Becca has been a wonderful addition to our team. It feels like she has been here much longer, and automatically became a part of the ‘family,’” said Julie (Wilson) Lucas (‘97), director of development. “She has jumped right in, connecting with parents, alumni and donors, and we are thrilled to have her.”

Wood works closely with Lucas and Director of Alumni Relations Vicki Vincent to help them accomplish goals as they relate to the fundraising for the School, including the Annual Fund. Wood assists with correspondence, database maintenance, and the planning of special events like Alumni Weekend.

“The Advancement Office continues that relationship after the student leaves, and works to keep people engaged here at Darlington,” said Wood. “Our department also offers many opportunities for them to get involved again at the School.”

Between working for the local parks and recreation authority and as recreation coordinator for Acworth (Ga.) Parks and Recreation, she served as the director of business development for Ahlberg Engineering in Marietta, Ga., a civil firm owned by her husband of almost 10 years, Tyler.

The Watkinsville, Ga. native and her husband chose to relocate to Rome in 2013.

“We wanted to raise our kids in a small town, so to move here and have a sense of community is just amazing,” said Wood. “That’s when you know you’re in the right place.”

The Woods have a daughter, Emi Grace (age 8) and a son, Ty (age 6).

Wood holds a B.S. in Sports Management from Kennesaw State University and was recognized in 2006 as the Athletic Programmer of the Year (District 5) by the Georgia Parks and Recreation Association.

“Even when we were living near Atlanta, I often heard so many wonderful things about the Darlington Community,” said Wood. “Now, I get to see how fundraising can affect these lives, build relationships, and make a difference."

Wood is involved in the community as a member of the board of directors for Summit Quest, and also serves on the Altar Guild and with children’s choir at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, where she attends with her family. She has also volunteered her time in the past as a board member for the Rome-Floyd Commission on Children and Youth.

“I’ve enjoyed getting to know the different current families and alumni at Darlington,” she added. “I love the people here. It makes me feel more connected at Darlington and the community I live in.”

In her spare moments, Wood enjoys going to her children's sporting events, working out, and spending time with the family at home on their 10 acres along the Coosa River.
