Darlington art teacher Jennifer Moore will be the spotlighted artist in this year's Hospitality House for Women greeting card fundraiser. The Rome-based nonprofit organization prints a limited number of Mother's Day cards that feature a different artist and accompanying quote each year.

Over the last five years, the project has raised over $20,000 for the outreach organization.

The 2015 card features an original abstract piece from Moore in shades of pale gray, gold and teal, and includes a quote from Michelangelo: "I saw the angel in the marble and I carved until I set her free."

Past featured artists have included former Darlington art teacher and alumna Eva Marie (Kelley) Burns ('79) and school photographer RuthAnne Anderson.

"Because of who the shelter benefits, we choose talented local women to design beautiful artwork year after year," said Mary Sib (Mooney) Banks ('65T), member of the Hospitality House's board of directors. "We seem to keep coming back to the Darlington Community, because there are so many creative people in the fine arts."

For every $20 or more donated on the behalf of a loved one for Mother's Day, the Hospitality House will send a card along with a handwritten message acknowledging the donation in their name. All of the money that is raised stays in the local community to help victims of domestic violence.

Moore joined the Darlington faculty in 2004 and teaches students in grades 2-8. The Rome native holds a B.S. in Art Education from Berry College and is married to local photographer Kelly Moore ('95). She is the mother of Wil ('14) and Emily Taylor ('18).

In her role as a local artist, Moore has contributed her talent to a variety of causes including Chieftains Museum, Coosa River Basin Initiative, Rome Area Council for the Arts, and St. Peter's Episcopal Church.

The Hospitality House for Women opened in 1978 as one of the first domestic violence shelters in Georgia. A 27-bed facility provides emergency food, clothing and shelter to victims of abuse. Its mission and purpose have become more visible in recent years thanks to the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes awareness event and Hospitality House Thrift Store.
