Buddy Andrews ('51) (left) points to the section of his ship, the USS Chara, that was carrying an atomic bomb to Japan for potential use in Korea in 1953. Andrews was showing the ship to Steve Sheinkin author of "Bomb: The Race to Build — and Steal — the World's Most Dangerous Weapon." Frank Barron ('48) (background) was aboard a destroyer, the USS Eversole, which was escorting the Chara. Sheinkin spoke to Darlington students about his book Monday. (Photo credit: Doug Walker, RN-T)

The two Darlington alums shared stories at a Monday breakfast about how they helped to transport an atomic bomb during the Korean War. The graduates only recently found out that they were on two ships just miles apart from each other in the Pacific Ocean.

Sheinkin, an award-winning author, was on the Darlington campus earlier this week to talk to students about his book and his nonfiction narrative writing style.
