Darlington alumna Chris Hubbard ('13) was recently published as the illustrator of the new coloring book, "Brownie, the Depot Dog." The tale, written by Anabelle Lee Macri, is based on the true story of a four-legged friend who once roamed the grounds of the train station in East Rome.
The project was a joint venture between the author, the illustrator, the Greater Rome Convention & Visitors Bureau and Georgia Highlands College.
Hubbard donated her time and talents to create black and white illustrations that help tell about Rome's history through the eyes of the small dog, featuring local legends and popular tourist attractions.
Hubbard is currently a sophomore at Duke University and is studying computer science and art history. While at Darlington, she took three years of art with Kathy O'Mara, during which she also designed artwork for t-shirts for a variety of on-campus events. Hubbard was also a cheerleader while in the Upper School, as well as a member of the staff for Darlington's literary magazine, The Inkslinger.
Proceeds from all sales of "Brownie, the Depot Dog" will go to the Rome-based Claws for Paws, which redistributes funds to other worthy non-profit organizations that specialize in the welfare of Floyd County's homeless and needy animal population.
“This project is truly a team effort and it is our goal to raise enough funds to make a strong impact on local animal shelters as well as fund special projects for the City of Rome,” said author Anabelle Lee Macri.
"Brownie, the Depot Dog" is available for purchase at the Last Stop Gift Shop inside the Rome-Floyd Visitor Center, located at 402 Civic Center Drive in Rome. For more information, call 706-295-5576.
