Darlington's U19 Boys were runners up at the Atlanta Cup.
Darlington School Soccer Academy sent four teams to compete in the 2014 Publix Atlanta Cup over Labor Day weekend and returned with one champion (U14 Boys) and two runners up (U19 Boys and U16 Boys).

"The Atlanta Cup has become one of youth soccer's strongest preseason events in the southern region," said Jamey Newsome, assistant director of Darlington School Soccer Academy. "With club teams traveling from several different states, it provides an extremely competitive opportunity for teams to play at a high level and prepare for the upcoming seasons."

The U14 Boys started their winning streak 3-1 versus SSA Savannah United Premier. They then defeated USC Premier 5-1, TBU Elite 2-0 and GA Rush Elite 4-1 to make it to the U14 Atlanta Cup final. Darlington's boys shutout DSC Revolution Premier 4-0 to win the championship.

"We are proud of our U14 boys for their great run at the Atlanta Cup," said Darlington School Soccer Academy Director Chad Liddle. "They have been working hard and it showed on the field."

Darlington's U19 Boys and the U16 Boys made it to their final, but were ultimately defeated. The U19 Boys logged a 2-2 tie against United FA, a 6-0 shutout over AFC Premier and a 1-1 tie in the final against SCU Elite. The U16 Boys lost their first match against MS Brilla 1-0 but came back to win 1-0 over SCU Palmetto, 2-1 and 1-0 against GA Rush. In the final, they lost 4-1 versus Clay Co. SC Ranger.

As for Darlington's girls, the U19s played hard but lost 1-0 to UFA Norcross Red and 2-0 to Tophat 15 Gold before winning their last game against FC Tampa 2-0.

"We are only two weeks into our season, so we were extremely pleased with the Soccer Academy's performance at the Atlanta Cup," Liddle said. "Between the four teams, we compiled an overall record of 10-2-4 and scored 36 goals while allowing only 12. Our boys and girls trained hard and played hard, and we can't ask for much more than that. We are looking forward to a great season full of tough competition and opportunities for our talented student-athletes to be seen by college coaches around the country."
