Barton Lowrey ('05, LD '14) has joined the Darlington Community as major gifts officer in the Advancement Office. In this role, he will manage relationships with donors and oversee the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gifts.

"Darlington is my alma mater, and I want to give back to the school that gave so much to me," Lowrey said. "I look forward to interacting with fellow alumni to hear their stories and about the good times they had while attending Darlington."

Lowrey holds a B.B.A. in Real Estate and a B.S.Ed. in Sport Management from the University of Georgia. In college, he also studied abroad in England and New Zealand. He is a graduate of Leadership Darlington, L.E.A.D. Athens and the Georgia Academy for Economic Development, and spent the last four years working as a field representative and constituent services representative in the Office of U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson. He also has experience in fundraising and sales.

"I was inspired to pursue a field of education by several teachers who had great influence on me while I was a student at Darlington. Two teachers, Coach Jim Van Es and George Awsumb, impacted my life for the better and continue to do so today," Lowrey said. "As a member of the advancement team, I want to bring resources to the school that support current faculty like the two I mentioned above so that those teachers will have the opportunity to impact students the same way Coach Van Es and Mr. Awsumb impacted me."

Lowrey said he is driven and inspired by his passion for helping others.

"That passion of serving others truly motivates me when I wake up each day," he said. "Working in the Advancement Office will give me the unique opportunity of helping students, faculty and alumni reach their individual goals. The most fulfilling work will be watching firsthand the success students will have not only at Darlington, but also in college and beyond."

Outside of work, Lowrey enjoys hunting, snow skiing, fly-fishing, reading, playing golf, UGA football, traveling, and cooking with his wife, Betsy. The couple lives in Atlanta.
