Kimberly Human has joined the Darlington Community as ELA-8 music specialist.

"I knew I wanted to be a teacher when I was in kindergarten," Human said. "However, the music portion of my path was not solidified until my senior year of high school after an extremely difficult time involving my choir director. I knew at that time that I wanted to give students a better opportunity to succeed in music than I was given."

Human holds a B.M.E. in Music Education from Berry College and a Georgia Educator Certificate in K-12 Music. In college, she was a member of The Berry College Concert Choir, The Berry Singers and Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society. She also received the 2011 Rome Music Lover’s Excellence in Music Award.

"My philosophy is simply that if there are students, I will teach them," Human said. "Music is so much more than notes and rhythms. It is a way in which we live our lives. I teach music to bring out the creative nature in children, whether they realize they possess it or not. I teach music because it makes life more beautiful to live. I teach music because music is who I am, and I want to share my passion for it with children, your children."

Most recently, Human was a student teacher at Cass High School, where she taught choral students in grades 9-12. She has also worked with students at Berry College and Elementary School, Euharlee Elementary School, and Rome Middle School.

"What I'm looking forward to the most is getting to know my students here at Darlington and their families, and to see the students' progress throughout the year," Human said.

Outside of work, Human enjoys reading, watching movies, painting, writing her own music/short stories/plays, baking, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.

"I love to read British literature and listen to classical music, but I also love to take a walk through the woods and listen to country music," she said. "As far as hobbies, I collect aprons and old music memorabilia."

Kimberly and her husband, Chris, were married this summer.
