Purple Tie Affair to benefit all parent organizations

July 7, 2014 | 2366 views

Last year's one-school fundraiser raised more than $64,500 for the school’s parent organizations in October 2013.
Darlington School will host the Purple Tie Affair, a one-school fundraiser, on Saturday, Aug. 16, at 6 p.m. in the Huffman Athletic Center’s Van Es Arena. All current parents, faculty and staff, and alumni are invited to attend with proceeds benefiting Darlington’s parent organizations, including ELA-8 and Upper School Tiger Pride, the Athletic Booster Club and the Fine Arts Booster Club.

"The Purple Tie Affair will include dinner, a silent and live auction, reverse raffle and gaming tables (with play money of course), and raffle boxes with great prizes to win," said Kelley Hollowell, event chairperson. "I am excited to be working with such a wonderful group of parents this summer to make this a fun, exciting and memorable event for all who attend. Remember that this fundraiser is critical to Darlington's parent organizations, which do so much for our children throughout the year, so I hope you will start making plans to attend the Purple Tie Affair. Don't miss this great opportunity to support our school and our students!"

Dress for the event is casual. Men are asked to wear their favorite purple tie and women are asked to wear something purple. Jeans or khakis are acceptable.

This year's Reverse Raffle grand prize is $10,000 cash or tuition credit for your oldest child up to $18,000 (to be used in one school year). Second prize is $2,000 cash. Reverse Raffle tickets are $100 and do not include dinner.

Dinner tickets are $50 per person and include a petite iceberg lettuce wedge station, roasted garlic french green beans, braised vegetable medley, twice baked potatoes, sauteed baby bella mushrooms, wild rice pilaf, chicken with an Alabama white BBQ sauce, a carving station with beef rib eye served with pop-over rolls, agave butter, horseradish cream sauce, roasted shallots, red wine demi steak sauce, Brandy peppercorn cream sauce, assorted desserts and an open bar. Tickets may be purchased at www.darlingtonschool.org/purpletieaffair.

"So how can parents and alumni get involved? We need lots of auction items in order for this event to be successful," Hollowell said. "From gift cards, to services and vacation homes, to sporting events, we need items that interest everyone. If you work for a company that would be willing to donate something to the auction, our parents are a perfect target market for many businesses! Our committee welcomes anyone who would like to help make this event a success. Simply contact me or Anne Paige Wilson to make arrangements."
