After mastering the flipped classroom model, Middle School science teacher Randy Smith has been selected to present at a variety of educational conferences throughout the summer and fall.

"Randy's recent string of presentations at conferences and webinars have not only been a chance for him to share his expertise with colleagues outside of Darlington, but to represent the high quality of education happening inside all of our classrooms," said Stefan Eady, director of information technology. "Although he has been sharing his expertise on topics such as integrating technology and flipping the classroom, he has really been acting as a model for how to inspire and educate a new generation of learners."

On June 12, Smith presented a session titled "Are You Out of Your Flippin' Mind?" at iSummit in Atlanta.

"The session gave teachers the tools to begin flipping their classrooms through the creation of video and video publishing," explained Smith.

He has also been invited to present "Are You Out of Your Flippin' Mind" as a webinar for NISCE, the National Institute for Student-Centered Education, in preparation for their annual fall conference INSPIRE 2014: Engaging Today’s Student

"The webinar series will feature at least five speakers and it is essential to the success of the INSPIRE conference," explained NISCE Program Director Alyssa Kierkegaard. "Like the conference, the webinar series has a goal of promoting strategies and methods for more effectively reaching and engaging today's student."

Last, Smith will present "Are You Out of Your Flippin' Mind" at the 2014 Lilly Conference in Traverse City, Mich., Oct. 16-19. For 34 years, Lilly Conferences have provided opportunities for educators across the United States, representing any and all disciplines, to come together and focus on evidence-based teaching and learning.

"Randy proves every day in his classroom that teaching is about inspiring students to be critical, creative thinkers and communicators," Eady said. "He has been a great resource for our own teachers as they incorporate new strategies like flipped classrooms and digital projects into their teaching. When he shares his expertise with audiences, he is representing a Darlington that is working hard to make sure students are getting the best education possible. I'm proud of Randy for making us all proud of Darlington."

Smith also gave a presentation about the flipped classroom model at Tech Forum Atlanta in March. Click here to read more about that presentation, "The Flipped Classroom: What's Next?," and watch it online.
