Ivy Brewer, associate dean of college guidance at Darlington School, was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the Southern Association for College Admission Counseling (SACAC) at the Association’s annual conference at Myrtle Beach, S.C.

SACAC is a professional association of over 1,600 colleges, universities, secondary schools and individual members of the admissions profession throughout the nine-state Southern region. Brewer has been very active in the association for a number of years, most recently serving as chair of the SACAC summer program, “Sweet Tea Tour,” which provides college counseling professionals from throughout the region and the country the opportunity to visit a number of Southern colleges during the summer.

Originally from Richmond, Va., Brewer is a graduate of St. Margaret's School in Tappahannock, Va., where she was a four-year boarding student. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in English from the University of Georgia and a Masters in Educational Leadership from Florida Gulf Coast University in Ft. Myers, Fla. She also holds a graduate certificate in college admissions counseling from UCLA and is a Certified Educational Planner.

"Ivy Brewer is the consummate professional," said Sam Moss ('63), Darlington’s dean of college guidance. "Ivy's genuine concern for students, combined with her extensive knowledge of colleges and the admissions process, qualify her ideally for her role at Darlington. Not only is she always seeking to improve her own professional training -- such as having just visited her 200th college -- but she also devotes a good deal of her time to training other career professionals by presenting and serving on panels at various professional conferences. Her election to the SACAC Board not only recognizes her contributions to her profession, but also reflects well on Darlington and on our college counseling program.”

Brewer is in her seventh year at Darlington and serves as resident faculty in addition to her college counseling duties. She previously worked at Seacrest Country Day School in Naples, Fla., and at St. Catherine’s School in Richmond, Va.
