Eberhart to join Middle School faculty

Chris Eberhart has a passion for math, science and sports, and he looks forward to sharing his passion with the Darlington Community this fall. Eberhart has been hired to teach seventh-grade math and eighth-grade science and to coach Middle School baseball and volleyball.

“Chris’ commitment to and experience in differentiated instruction and technology integration is a perfect fit for Darlington,” said James Hutchins, director of Middle School. “He has created resources and activities that are being utilized by teachers around the country. I am excited to welcome him to our team.”

Eberhart holds a B.S. in Biological Science/Pre-Professional Medicine from Florida Atlantic University and has four years of middle grades teaching experience. Most recently, he served as a math teacher for the Center for Advanced Academics and Technology, a magnet program at Oak View Middle School in Newberry, Fla.

“I really enjoy working with kids and being a positive influence on their education,” he said. “I enjoy inspiring, motivating and challenging students to move out of their comfort zone in order to expand their knowledge about themselves and the subject matter.”

During his three years at Oak View Middle School, Eberhart held leadership roles such as sixth-grade team leader and math department co-chairperson. As such, some of his responsibilities included educating teachers in technology, keeping up with the latest news in standards and assessments, and researching best practices to share with his team. Many of his lessons were filmed and used as training videos for new teachers.

“If I can find a common platform between me, the student and the curriculum, I can help the student learn just about anything,” he said. “Specifically in math, I can relate all numbers back to a hobby, skill or career choice that a student might have so they can see how they might apply these concepts in a real-world setting.”

Eberhart was also an active member of student life at Oak View, coaching volleyball, founding the Fellowship of Christian Athletes club, and developing a flag football league. He plans to be just as engaged at Darlington.

“I am looking forward to being an active faculty member and getting to know the students and the community that supports Darlington,” he said. “I am also looking forward to coaching Darlington’s young, talented student-athletes in baseball and volleyball.”

According to Eberhart, there isn’t a sport he does not play – though his true passion is baseball.

“I grew up playing baseball through college and one year professionally after graduating,” he said. “Since retiring from baseball, I now enjoy golfing with friends and bowling in competitive leagues. I also enjoy spending time with my wife, Karen, and playing fetch with our black lab, Clutch.”

The Eberharts are thrilled to become part of the Darlington Community and said it was the school’s family atmosphere that was most attractive to them.

“I love that Darlington is so family oriented,” Eberhart said. “In my experience, a faculty and staff that works well together and communicates effectively is essential to overall student success.”
