Seniors Mattie Stubbs and Avani Reddy won first and second place, respectively, in the 31st Annual Congressional Art Competition, announced Congressman Phil Gingrey, M.D., (GA-11) during a ceremony at the Rome Area History Museum.

“Because we receive so many exceptional entries, reviewing the artwork submitted for the Congressional Art Competition is difficult every year, and this time was no different," Gingrey said. "The depth of talent and creativity displayed by this year’s entrants is exceptional. I extend my sincere congratulations to all of our winners and honorable mentions. I am proud that the artwork of our District’s first place winner, Mattie Stubbs, will be displayed in our nation’s Capitol for the next year.”

Additionally, an honorable mention went to Darlington senior Kelsey Ann Williams. Work by sophomore Bethany Cagle and senior Sarah Grace Stubbs was also selected for the competition.

"The quality of the work I had to choose from this year was outstanding," said Upper School art teacher Kathy O'Mara. "All five students are to be congratulated for their work being chosen for submission."

The annual Congressional Art Competition is an opportunity for high school artists to showcase their talent around the district and at the U.S. Capitol. Since 1982, nearly 650,000 students have participated. The winner is eligible to receive a $3,000 scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design and will be featured alongside entries from other congressional districts in the U.S. Capitol Building.
