Eighth-grader Ethan Pender has qualified to represent Darlington School at the state level of the National Geographic Bee, sponsored by Google and Plum Creek.

"Ethan has won four school-level bees at Darlington and we are excited that he will have another opportunity this year to represent us at the state competition," said Steve Bartholomew, director of Lower School and Darlington's Geographic Bee coordinator. "We wish him the best of luck!"

The state bee will be held on Friday, March 30, at Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville. It will feature students in grades 4-8.

The winner from each state and territory will advance to the national competition, which will be held May 22-24 at the National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, D.C. The final round of the 2012 National Geographic Bee, featuring Jeopardy's Alex Trebek, will air on the National Geographic Channel on May 24 and then on public TV stations, produced by National Geographic Television.

The National Geographic Society is one of the world’s largest nonprofit scientific and educational organizations. Founded in 1888 to increase and diffuse geographic knowledge, the society’s mission is to inspire people to care about the planet.
