Darlington announces Commencement plans

Darlington School is pleased to announce that the Class of 2010 has selected Joey Rice to be the keynote speaker at the Baccalaureate Service on May 14 and Brian Inman to speak at Commencement on May 15.

 

Joey Rice, seventh-grade American History teacher and head of the Middle School history department, has been at Darlington since 2002. In addition to his teaching duties, he is a duty teacher in Summerbell House and also coaches Middle School football and baseball. In the past, he has also coached varsity football, track and lacrosse. Rice holds a B.S. and an M.Ed. from Jacksonville State University. He taught public school for nine years before coming to Darlington. In the past eight years, he has received the James Douglas Brown Jr. Faculty Award and is a four-time recipient of the Parents’ Association Significant Contributions to the Darlington Community Award.

 

Brian Inman, Ancient World History, Modern World History, AP Art History and World Religions teacher, has been at Darlington since 2002. In addition to his teaching duties, he also advises several campus organizations including the Young Democrats and the Honor Council. Inman holds a B.A. and M.A.T. from Carson-Newman College. Prior to his arrival, he taught ESL for seven years at Lake Forest Academy (Ill.) and in Pohang, South Korea. During his tenure at Darlington, he has been honored multiple times for his work with students. In the past eight years, he has received the Parents’ Association Excellence in Teaching Award, the Parents’ Association Significant Contributions to the Darlington Community Award, the Beacham Master Teacher Award and the Oscar Betts (’19) Master Teacher Award. He has also been recognized as Teacher of the Week by the Rome News-Tribune and earned several nominations to appear in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.


The Baccalaureate Service will be held May 14 at 7 p.m. in Morris Chapel. Commencement will begin May 15 at 9:30 a.m. on the Chapel Lawn. The rain location is the Huffman Athletic Center.
