Two earn All-State honors for football

Seniors Chase Butler and Thad Mathis have earned All-State honors from the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association for their performance on the football field this fall.

Butler was named GACA North Class A Defensive Player of the Year. A senior linebacker, he was also named Rome News-Tribune Defensive Player of the Year. He finished the season with 94 total tackles, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, eight tackles for loss and two blocked kicks. Butler has signed to play baseball for Georgia Tech. He is the son of Lisa and Rhett Butler of Rome.

Mathis was named GACA Class A All-State Offensive Lineman. Playing through multiple injuries, he was vital in the Tigers' ability to claim region and pull off three wins in the playoffs. He finished with 44 solo tackles, eight TFL, 5.5 sacks and four forced fumbles. Mathis has signed to play football for Shorter College. He is the son of Paula and Chris Mathis of Rome.
