Faculty members earn kudos

Please join us in congratulating the following faculty and staff members for their recent achievements:

Steve Bartholomew, director of Lower School, and Janice Cox, kindergarten teacher, were recognized in the Rome News-Tribune’s annual Reader’s Choice Contest. Bartholomew, who came to Darlington in 2006, was first runner-up for Best Principal. Cox, who joined the staff in 1990, was named Best Teacher.

Ivy Brewer, associate dean of college guidance, has earned the designation of Certified Educational Planner, which is the highest "standard" available in the field. She has worked at Darlington since 2007, and has previous college counseling experience at Seacrest Country Day School and St. Catherine's School.

Rob Hall, reading specialist, has earned his Ph.D. from Capella University (Minn.) His dissertation topic was “Reading Specialists in Independent Private Schools.” Hall came to Darlington in 2007 after teaching for seven years in the Floyd County Schools system.

Kathy O'Mara, art teacher, received a Distinguished Service Award at the Georgia Independent School Association's annual awards banquet. This award honors educators with 25 years of service in independent schools. O'Mara has taught at Darlington since 1985.

Sam Moss ('63), dean of college guidance, has been selected to serve on Oglethorpe University's inaugural High School Counselor Advisory Board. This panel will meet annually to discuss professional trends, best practices and campus udpates, with the goal of gaining greater insight into the students and parents they serve. Moss has worked at Darlington since 1982.
