School welcomes new faculty and staff

Darlington School announces the following faculty and staff additions for the 2008-09 school year:

Ashley Henson Evans will teach Lower School Spanish. She holds a B.A. in Journalism and a M.Ed. in Foreign Language Education from the University of Georgia. She has also studied at the University of Valencia (Spain). Henson completed her student teaching at Cedar Shoals High School in Athens, Ga. She has also volunteered as an ESL instructor.

Brantley Evans will teach Upper School history and serve as assistant varsity lacrosse coach. He holds a B.A. in History and a M.Ed. in Social Science Education from the University of Georgia. He completed his student teaching at South Gwinnett High School in Snellville, Ga., and served as a UGA Visitors Center Tour Guide.

Faye Fron has been named chief development officer in the Advancement Office. She holds a B.S. in Organizational Management from Covenant College and completed graduate coursework in public administration at the University of West Georgia. She also earned a certificate in fundraising management from The Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University. Most recently, Fron was director of development for the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution in Washington, D.C. She also spent eight years as director of alumni relations at Berry College.

Jeff Haigler will serve as a staff coach for Darlington School Soccer Academy. He holds a B.S. from Presbyterian College, where he was captain of the men's soccer team and a member of the South Atlantic Conference All-Conference and All-Academic teams. Most recently, he worked in the echo vascular department at South Carolina Heart Center in Columbia. He has also coached soccer for Columbia United FC and Dutch Fork High School in Irmo, S.C.

Gordon Hight ('94) will serve as one of three deans of students. He will also teach Upper School history and coach varsity lacrosse. He holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of Virginia and a M.B.A. from the University of Georgia. Hight returns to Darlington after spending three years at Wellington School in Columbus, Ohio, where he was assistant to the dean of students, chairman of the history department, and head coach of boys’ lacrosse and girls’ golf. He taught history, government and economics at Darlington's Upper School from 2002-2005, in addition to serving terms as director of student activities and director of summer programs.

Michael Hudson ('94) will teach Upper School science. He holds a B.S. in Biology from the Georgia Institute of Technology, a M.S. in Biology from the University of West Georgia, and earned his teaching certification through Shorter College. Most recently, he taught biology, chemistry and environmental science at Model High School, where he also coached soccer, tennis and football. Hudson also spent five years teaching and coaching at Marist School in Atlanta.

Thomas Moore ('99) will teach Upper School English and journalism and serve as assistant junior varsity football coach. He holds a B.A. in English Literature from Georgia State University and a M.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Edinburgh (Scotland).

Bob Stinchcomb has been named athletic director. With 27 years of experience in the high school and college arenas, he holds a B.S. in Physical Education and Health from Bethel College, a M.S. in Athletic Administration from Florida State, and is currently seeking his doctorate in sports management through the United States Sports Academy. Most recently, Stinchcomb served as athletic director and head football coach at Eagle’s Landing High School in McDonough, Ga. During his tenure there, he was twice named Region Athletic Director of the Year, and received top honors in 2003 as State of Georgia AAAAA Athletic Director of the Year. He has also served as athletic director and head football coach at Tift County High School and Appling County High School, both in Georgia, and held positions as special teams coordinator at the University of South Carolina, recruiting coordinator at Auburn University, and interim head football coach at Samford University.

Erin Westmaas will teach chorus and musical theatre at the Middle and Upper Schools. She holds a B.A. in Music Theory and Composition from Calvin College (Mich.) and a M.M. in Choral Conducting from Yale School of Music. Most recently, Westmaas was a lecturer in music theory at Yale, a voice instructor for the Yale Glee Club, and music director for Yale University Church and Shoreline Community Chorale. She has directed, conducted and performed with several other vocal ensembles as well.

Nicole Witt has been named head of Cooper House. She holds a B.S. from the University of Western Florida, a M.S. from Georgia State University, and has spent the past five years working in private, clinical practice in pediatric obesity and wellness.
