Darlington announces Commencement plans

Darlington School is pleased to announce that Brian Inman will speak at the Baccalaureate Service on May 16 and Jim Van Es will speak at Commencement on May 17.

Brian Inman, Upper School history teacher, has been teaching at Darlington since 2002. He holds a B.A. and M.A.T. from Carson-Newman College. Prior to his arrival at Darlington, he taught English as a Second Language for seven years, at Lake Forest Academy (Ill.) and in Pohang, South Korea. Inman was the 2007 recipient of the Beacham Master Teacher Award and was recently named a Rome News-Tribune Teacher of the Week. He has also been nominated to appear in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.

Jim Van Es, director of Middle School, began teaching math and coaching basketball at Darlington in 1968. Forty years later, he is still coaching the Tigers. Van Es holds a B.S. from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and a M.Ed. from the University of Tennessee. During his tenure at Darlington, he has received the Oscar Betts Master Teacher Award, the R.M. Yankee Teacher Award and been a two-time recipient of the James Douglas Brown Jr. Faculty Award. He has also appeared multiple times in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. For his dedication to coaching, Van Es has been recognized by Scholastic Coach Magazine with a National High School Coaching Award, been twice awarded the honor of Northwest Georgia Coach of the Year, and been named Region 6-AA Basketball Coach of the Year and Northwest Georgia Tip-Off Club Coach of the Year. He is also a member of Franklin Select Circle of High School Coaches.
