Darlington to host own Relay For Life event

March 3, 2009 | 66 views
Darlington students are already gearing up for this year's Relay For Life event, which will be dedicated in honor of Middle School student Madeline Gaffney, who was recently diagnosed with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia. This event will be held March 20 at the Upper School campus from 4 to 10 p.m.

"Floyd County's Relay For Life event takes place the weekend of Darlington's Commencement, so we decided to host our own celebration so that all of our students can participate," said Reba Barnes, director of servant leadership. "Our school community is so passionate about this worthwhile cause, and we are all working together to make Darlington's first-ever Relay For Life a huge success."

The evening will begin with games in the Cove and canoeing in Silver Lake, followed by dinner in The Grill. The Survivors' Walk around the lake will begin at 8 p.m., led by Gaffney and other members of the Darlington Community whose lives have been affected by cancer. After the walk, entertainment will be provided on Wilcox Patio.

"Students will be walking continual laps around the lake all night, and we encourage any and all supporters to come out and join us for a wonderful evening together," Barnes said. "All proceeds will benefit the Floyd County Relay For Life event."

Darlington School would love to know the names of family and friends you wish to honor or remember during this special event. Please submit this information to Angela Pieroni. These people will be recognized with a luminary and also on a Wall of Honor banner.
