Setup Darlington e-mail, contacts, and calendar on iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad

9/26/2011 9:00:00 AM, 650 views

You can set up and make changes to an email account directly on an iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad with your pre-existing Darlington email account. You will need your e-mail address and password, and these simple instructions. These instructions can also be used for your personal Google Mail accounts.

Enter account settings directly on iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad

1. From the Home screen, choose Settings > Mail, Contacts,Calendars > Add Account.

2. Choose Exchange as your e-mail account type. This provides more functionality than using the GMail option.

3. Enter your e-mail address. Leave domain blank. Your username is your full e-mail address and your password is your regular Darlington password. The description should be changed to something that helps you know this is your Darlington e-mail.

4. After you click Next, the screen will return with the additional Server option. Enter "m.google.com" and then click Next.

5. If you have entered everything correctly, you will be asked which pieces of information you want to sync to your device. Most people choose to turn all of these on. After clicking Save, you may be prompted whether you want to keep existing information on your device or delete them. You should choose to keep unless you are absolutely sure you have never saved important calendar or contact information to your device.

6. After clicking Save, you will be returned to the settings screen of the account you just created. By default, this account will only pull e-mail from the past three days. Most people prefer to change this to No Limit. Do this by clicking the "Mail Days to Sync" option and changing it to No Limit.

7. Click back to your account settings screen and then click back one more time to your mail settings screen. Click on the Fetch New Data option. By default, Push will be set to on. This enables real time delivery of mail and calendar information. Unless this is necessary, turn this off as Push creates a significant drain on your battery. Instead, choose a time frame below that represent a more reasonable frequency for getting e-mail updates. Keep in mind that your e-mail is always refreshed whenever you open it or click the refresh icon inside of the mail app.

8. Now you are done! Back on the Mail, Contacts, Calendars settings page, you should review your settings to make sure everything is the way you want it. In particular, if you have multiple accounts setup, make sure the default location for Contacts and Calendars are correct. These specify where new contacts and events are created if done on the device.

Note:
To setup additional calendars to sync with your phone you will need to follow these steps.

  1. Open the Safari browser on your phone and go to http://m.google.com
  2. Click on Google Apps user? at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Enter darlingtonschool.org for the domain name.
  4. Click the Sync icon in your domain area (this section has a green background).
  5. Sign in if required.
  6. Select your device to configure Calendars.
