Friendship Feast: A 3rd-Grade Tradition

Thursday, November 17, 2016 | By Jamie Massey | 202 views

Third grade hosted their annual Friendship Feast today. Each student invited one guest to join him/her for a special presentation and lunch. The students worked with several moms to set up and decorate for the event, as well as prepare the food. The Friendship Feast is an annual culminating event for third-graders after completing a cross-curricular unit of study about the first Thanksgiving. Students have read the biography, "Squanto: Friend of the Pilgrims"; made placemats in art; wrote friendly letters in language arts class; and filmed a slide show with Mrs. Wardlaw. The tradition of the third grade Friendship Feast began in 1998 by current Darlington parent Lauren Brewster who was a student teacher in our third grade at that time.
