Service Committee Book Drive

Saturday, February 18, 2017 | By Bebe Zazzaro | 200 views

The Service Committee learned that over 30 percent of children in Rome do not have books in their homes to read and decided to help them by having a book drive. The group held assemblies, made posters and told the students of Thatcher about the need. The committee then challenged the school to bring in 1,500 books.

In true tiger fashion, Thatcher students exceeded their goal and collected 3,600 books. Over 30 students stayed after school and helped sort, count and pack the books for distribution. Books were divided and given to Main Elementary, North Heights Elementary, McHenry Primary School, Rome Restoration and the Canopy School in Kenya.

Many children have benefited from these books and this special gift. Thank you to all that gave and helped out!
