King Cake for 3rd Grade

Thursday, January 21, 2016 | By Jamie Massey | 129 views

Third-grader Lillian Baggett's parents recently visited New Orleans and brought back king cakes for her classmates. Dr. and Mrs. Baggett are natives of New Orleans, and love sharing some of the traditions with their girls' classes each year.

Thank you to Dr. and Mrs. Baggett for bringing king cake to third grade!

A few king cake facts....
King cake is a round cake used to celebrate Mardi Gras. It is round to represent the circle that the three wise men took when visiting the baby Jesus to throw off King Herod, as he tried to follow them. Mardi Gras season begins January 6 on Three Kings Day. It ends on fat Tuesday, or Mardi Gras, the day before Ash Wednesday. Each cake has a baby in it, which represents Jesus. Whoever gets the baby is supposed to throw the next party. The colors of Mardi Gras are green for faith, purple for justice, and gold for power.
