Breakfast with Author Steve Sheinkin

Monday, April 27, 2015 | By Luke Chaffin | 541 views

Faculty, alumni, a student and member of the local media gathered for a special breakfast with award-winning author Steve Sheinkin in the Sulzbacher Dining Room on April 27. Sheinkin was on campus to speak with students in grades 5-12 about his nonfiction narrative titled "Bomb: The Race to Build and Steal the World's Most Dangerous Weapon."

Buddy Andrews ('51) and Frank Barron ('48) recounted stories with the author and others present about their time in the Korean War, and the even deeper connection they only recently found out that they shared.

Barron served in the U.S. Navy on the destroyer that escorted the ammunition ship that Andrews was on, which carried an atomic bomb from Guam to Japan in preparation for the possibility of attack. For some time, the two Golden Tigers were serving their country just 40 miles apart from each other in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
