Sponsored, in part, by Darlington School, the city's inaugural Olympic Distance Race included a 1-mile swim in the Etowah River, a 24-mile bike ride around scenic Rome and a 6.25-mile run in downtown Rome. Darlington students and faculty participating in the race included Caroline (Peek) Blaylock ('91), Stefan Eady, Mike Hudson, Angie Milford, James Milford, Robert Mull ('10), Alan Parish, Clay Phillips ('10), Beau Pollard ('10), Beth (Bagby) Smith ('87), Donald Sweeney, Ben Womble ('10) and Jack Yancey ('10). Proceeds from the race will benefit the Boys & Girls Club.
