Pumpkin Exploratory Day: Minecraft Pumpkin Patches

During our 3-5 exploratory pumpkin day, our students had the opportunity to use their iPads to create pumpkin patches using Minecraft. Their patches included petting zoos, corn mazes, houses, barns, ticket booths, roaming animals, and of course lots of pumpkins.


The Struggle is Real (for Teachers, Too!)

Early in the year teachers were presented with the question: “How do we help our students struggle?” in the understanding that the struggle leads to growth through learning. Though I tried to answer the question, I was overwhelmed with my own question: How can I help students struggle when I am trying to come to terms with my own struggle?


3rd Graders Represent at Volleyball Game

Although they came up short, third grade was represented well at the annual Pre-K to 8 faculty vs. student volleyball game. Our players were Camille Cross, Logan Cochran, Trey Moore, Cecilia Baggett, and Avery Klawon. They played an exciting game!


Pumpkin Exploratory Day: Making 3-D Pumpkins

During the third through fifth grade exploratory pumpkin day, the students created 3-D pumpkins to help decorate our hallway for the first day of fall.

Darlington's ACT scores reached a new high this year, exceeding both the state and national averages once again.

The first day of autumn is the perfect day for pumpkin-themed exploratory activities for third- through fifth-graders. During one of the rotations students participated in a reader's theatre titled "The Pumpkin Patch" by Lisa Frase.

I must admit that I was a bit nervous about stepping back into the classroom full time after having been retired for three years. I am happy to report that my first month of teaching in the 3-5 science lab has been filled with many unique teaching opportunities, and it has been so rewarding to me already.
