What colleges do graduates attend? Students in the past few years have attended such colleges as Washington & Lee, Princeton, Columbia, Tulane, Auburn, Rhodes, Furman, University of Georgia, Georgetown, Emory, and Georgia Tech. Additionally, our graduates collectively receive nearly $2 million each year in scholarships and grants. Is Darlington equipped with on-line computers for use by students? May students bring their own computers? Yes to both questions. Students with computers can connect to the Darlington network in their residential houses, which also gives them Internet access including e-mail. Students without computers can use computers in one of our five computer labs, which are loaded with the latest software. See the Technology page in this admission section for more information.
Are students required to wear uniforms? Not in the Upper or Middle Schools, although there is a dress code which requires formal dress on Wednesdays. Lower School students are required to wear uniforms. For more information on the dress code, see the student handbook.
Do the students get college counseling? Absolutely. Every student has an adviser who focuses on academics and the big picture, and in the junior year students also get a college adviser.
How is your volleyball team? Are there opportunities to play golf? Good and yes. Darlington has 20 varsity and 19 j.v. teams in total: football, softball, cross country, volleyball, cheerleading, basketball, swimming & diving, wrestling, baseball, track & field, tennis, golf, soccer, and lacrosse. And our teams often bring home the trophy from region and state tournaments.
What if a student gets sick? Darlington has an infirmary located on campus and a doctor who comes to campus three times a week. Rome is the medical center of Northwest Georgia, so there is an ample supply of good orthodontists, etc., if needed.
Is skateboarding allowed on campus? Students can skateboard in areas where they will not damage property or harm people.
Do you have an academic assistance program for students who need additional help with their assigned work? Look in the Academics area of our Web site for a longer answer, but there are many options available for academic assistance. Students can attend coach class in the morning to receive extra help from their teachers. A supervised day study hall is also available for students who are having trouble with school work and resident students have evening study hall. One-on-one tutors can also be arranged if more help is needed.
What about drugs and alcohol? They are not tolerated at Darlington. Please refer to the Drugs & Alcohol section of the student handbook.
What is your cultural and/or ethnic ratio at the school? We are a diverse campus ethnically, socio-economically, and geographically. Our students represent 24 countries and 22 states. 29 percent of our resident students are students of color.
Is it against school policy to bring a pet? Resident students are not allowed to keep pets in their rooms, although faculty members will usually let you pet their dogs while they're on walks.
Do you have dance programs? We do not have a dance program; however, we do offer many dances and socials for our students throughout the school year.
Do you accept elementary or middle school boarding students? Our boarding program is currently only for grades 9 - 12.
Is it possible to enter at mid-year? We admit mid-year students if they are appropriate candidates, but we do not take many new students once the year has begun.
Can it be arranged to "shadow" a student at the school? Yes, prospective students are welcome to shadow a student. Visitors are always welcome, and we love showing off our students and faculty.
Are students allowed to hold jobs outside of school? Due to studies and extracurricular activities, students do not have the time to work off campus.
