Welcome to the archives page. Here you will find photographs, letters, and
documents relating to the early history of Darlington School. We hope to add to it as time
permits and as our collection grows. We welcome your visits to our web site as well as our
physical archives, located in the Upper School Library. The Hanks Archives was dedicated
by the Hanks family in honor of J. Daniel and Dorothy Hanks in 1993 at the construction
and opening of the new Upper School Library. Mr. Hanks, an alumnus and later the
much-loved Director of Development and Alumni, wrote The Story of Darlington School,
which was published in hardback in 1991. We will celebrate our centennial year in 2005
much aided by his work. |
NEWS and REQUESTS
We are searching for some very choice historical items to display on a history wall in the
school. If you have any information about these items we would be grateful: an ROTC
uniform from the Second World War years, one of the earliest "D" jackets
and a Proctor Debate Medal. If not the items themselves, photographs or the
opportunity to photgraph them would also be greatly appreciated.
We recently embarked on a search for information about Miss Bessie Lloyd for some of
our alums and are delighted to report that she was found by Mr. Jack
Summerbell in the 1954 annual which was dedicated to her. Look for a picture of Miss
Bessie and her store on the web page soon for all the alums from the 40s and 50s.
