In 2005, Darlington had 15 “AP Scholars,” six “AP Scholars with Honor,” and seven “AP Scholars with Distinction,” for a total of 28 AP Scholars.

    Honors Courses
    Darlington offers honors courses in English, math, social studies, sciences, and foreign languages. These courses are designated as such on the transcript. High school subjects taken in the eighth grade also receive honors credit.

    Grading System
    Grading is numerical; letter grade equivalents and grade points are as follows:

    A = 100-90 (Excellent) = 4.0 grade points
    B = 89-80 (Very Good) = 3.0 grade points
    C = 79-72 (Satisfactory) = 2.0 grade points
    D = 71-70 (Passing) = 1.0 grade points
    F = Below 70 (Failing) = 0.0 grade points
    WP = Withdrawn from course with passing mark
    WF = Withdrawn from course with failing mark

    Honors and A.P. marks are weighted 5 points for grade-point averages (GPA) and class rank. Course grades reported on transcripts are unweighted.

    Class Rank
    All students are ranked, but class rank as an indicator for predicting college performance should be reviewed with caution, since all graduates go to college. Small differences in grade point averages can make significant differences in rank. Class rank is determined by the numerical average of grades for all subjects given number grades at the end of the year for underclassmen; courses given letter grades are not included. Rank is cumulative for the junior and senior years. Honors and A.P. marks are weighted five points in the computation.

    Honor Rolls
    Darlington has a three-division Honor Roll, based upon the student’s numerical average. Grades for students in Honors or Advanced Placement Courses are weighted five points for Honor Roll computation purposes.

    Headmaster’s List 94.50 or higher average (No grade below 85)
    Dean’s List 89.50 or higher average (No grade below 85)
    Honor Roll 85.00 or higher average (No grade below 80)

    In the determination of Diplomas with Honors, an academic average of 89.50% or better with no grade below 80 in the senior year will constitute with Honor; 94.50% and above with no grade below 85, with High Honor.

    Disclosure of Conduct Records
    As a NACAC member, Darlington will, when requested on the institution's application, report student conduct records to colleges—including, but not limited to, serious disciplinary violations, honor violations, probation, suspension, and dismissal.

    Pattern of School Year
    Darlington operates on a schedule of three 12-week trimesters, with examinations at the end of each trimester.

    Graduation Requirements and Course of Study
    Darlington has one graduation award, the diploma, which carries with it the School’s recommendation to college. The minimum program of study leading to graduation includes 24 units, 19 of which must be in the major academic subjects, as follows.

    Darlington has an ethnically, racially, geographically, and socio-economically diverse student body. Twenty-fi ve percent of the students receive need-based fi nancial aid. The majority of the students come from the Southeast, but students are currently enrolled from twenty-four states (Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Maine, Mississippi, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nevada, New York, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington) and from twenty countries (Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Germany, Indonesia, Jamaica, Japan, Republic of Korea, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Tunisia, India, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Canada, Brazil, Puerto Rico, United States).
