The Impact My Colleagues Have Had on My Experience as Department Chair
Academic Administration | Chad Woods, March 16, 2015
Over the spring break, I reflected back on my five years as department chair. The teachers I have worked with have made it the best five years of my professional career.
Darlington will offer brief mini-sessions to familiarize juniors with the SAT and give seniors extra practice. The goal of these sessions will be to assist in their preparation for a very important part of the college admission process.

Sessions will be taught by Upper School math teacher Fran Buice ('76). Objectives include greater familiarity with the types of questions asked, strategies for tackling the length of the test, perspectives on how the test is scored, and resources available for individual self-study to improve scores. The course is optional for all juniors and seniors at no cost to parents.

"We are offering this service so that our students will benefit from some targeted and specific test-taking strategies, while at the same time maximizing their comfort with one of the most important factors for college acceptance," Buice said.

Four sessions will be offered during the year. Juniors and seniors should look at their calendars now and e-mail their preferred session to fbuice@darlingtonschool.org.

SAT sessions will be offered on the following dates:

1) Aug. 29 from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and Aug. 30 from 12:30-2:30 p.m.M

For the first time this year, Darlington will offer brief mini-courses in an effort to familiarize juniors with the SAT. The goal of these courses will be to assist in their preparation for a very important part of the college admission process.

Sessions will be taught by English department chairman David Powell and Upper School math teacher Fran Buice ('76). Course objectives include greater familiarity with the types of questions asked, strategies for tackling the length of the test, perspectives on how the test is scored, resources available for individual self-study to improve scores, and help with planning for the senior year from January through December 2008.

The course is mandatory for all juniors at no cost to parents except for the textbook, which sells for approximately $20. Parents may request in writing that their students be excused from the course if students are already planning to enroll in a more extensive review course during the summer.
