Steve Bartholomew has served as director of Lower School since 2006 and is also the primary instructor in the Lower School Science Lab. He has over 30 years of experience in the field of education. Steve holds a B.A. from the University of Massachusetts, an M.S. from Western Connecticut State University, and an M.S. and Ed.D. from Nova Southeastern University. He has also taught in Warsaw, Poland, and served in the Peace Corps in Ghana, West Africa.

One of the Lower School’s iconic teachers is retiring at the end of the school year. Gayle Monk has spent 23 years at Darlington in her 36-year career as a teacher. Over the years, she has won the respect of parents, students, and colleagues for her calm and astute management of young children.

Brewer places third at Independent School Science Fair

After placing first at the school level, fourth-grader Molly Brewer placed third in the Independent School Science Fair with her project "Popcorn Popability." The fair was held April 27 at Berry Elementary and Middle School.

The Power of One: Grand/Special Day Theme is a Big Hit

Last Friday was a very special day at the Lower School with a record turnout of grandparents, parents, and friends. We celebrated our Grand/Special Day with a salute to our veterans. This was the singular idea of Ashley Henry, our music teacher in her second year at Darlington, who rallied the faculty and students to embrace this theme.

A Lesson in Collaboration

Back in January, Steve McConnell and Alice Clements sat down to plan a unique experience for their third-grade classes. Steve brought a project from his former school, Saint Paul’s School in Clearwater, Fla., whereby students created an interactive walk through history.
