Tiger PRIDE
Parents Rallying in the Interest of Darlington Education

The purpose of our parent organizations is to enhance student life and to support faculty, staff, and administrative efforts to ensure Darlington students receive the best education possible. Opportunities for parent involvement are available throughout the year and allow parents to actively participate not only in their child’s education, but to become part of the Darlington family.

Pre-K to 8 Tiger PRIDE

Pre-K to 8 Tiger PRIDE (Parents Rallying in the Interest of Darlington Education) is dedicated to promoting volunteerism among parents in support of our school by engaging in activities focused on the enrichment of all students, faculty and staff of the Early Learning Academy through grade 8.

Funds received through membership and fundraising directly benefit the classroom, students and school community by providing support for classroom books, special interest speakers, field trips, plays and much more. The parents of Tiger PRIDE, in partnership with school leadership, seek to instill Service Beyond Self through community outreach programs and service learning initiatives. School spirit and a community atmosphere are maintained through tailgates, holiday celebrations, field day, Muffins for Mom, Donuts for Dad and Grand Special Day. Other major projects include Faculty Appreciation Week and the book fair.

Parent involvement is critical to the success of Darlington and will greatly enhance our students’ Darlington experience. Additionally, volunteering with Tiger PRIDE is a productive way to get to know faculty, other families and offer support for Pre-K to 8 events.

While projects may vary from year to year, parents are encouraged to sign up during fall registration for one of our four committees (Service, Fundraising, Community or Enrichment) and attend monthly meetings to learn more about how to be involved. Meetings are held in the Yancey Library at Thatcher Hall the first Monday of each month at 8:15 a.m. unless otherwise noted on the school calendar. Dates and times are always listed in the school calendar.

For information on how to get involved, contact one of the officers below or email ela8tigerpride@darlingtonschool.org.

Upper School Tiger PRIDE

Upper School Tiger PRIDE (Parents Rallying in the Interest of Darlington Education) is the parent organization dedicated to promoting volunteer interest among parents in support of the school, and engaging in activities promoting the enrichment of all students, faculty, and staff of students in grades 9- 12.

Tiger PRIDE sponsors many important school functions, such as Back to School Bash, Faculty Appreciation Week and Luncheon, Junior-Senior Prom, Spring Dance, Baccalaureate Reception, the used uniform sale, and the ever-popular DAR Family Program. Additionally, Tiger PRIDE decorates the Upper School campus for Christmas. They also sponsor several awards on Honors Day and award faculty grants for continuing education.

The DAR (Day and Resident) Family program is an opportunity for Darlington parents to support residential students while giving day students an opportunity to get involved with residential life. The DAR family liaisons promote day and resident interaction by hosting on campus mixers, house dinners, and activities throughout the school year. The time commitment is up to the individual since a team of people serve each house. Parents may choose to be involved throughout the year or help with one specific event. All we ask is a willingness to embrace students from different cultures and help us promote the caring spirit of the Darlington community.

Parent involvement is critical to the success of Darlington and is essential to the success of our parent organizations. Your participation will greatly enhance our students’ Darlington experience. Parents are encouraged to attend our regularly scheduled meetings which are listed in the school calendar.

Athletic Booster Club

Athletic Booster Club provides support for all Tiger sports and Lower School physical education, financially and through service. With the annual Family Fee, Darlington families receive two family passes to all regular season GHSA varsity home athletic events. Your involvement helps maintain quality facilities and necessary equipment for Darlington’s varsity, junior varsity, and Middle School teams that are not covered by the school budget, thus providing better opportunities for the most dedicated, committed student athletes.

The club operates concession stands, sells seasonal programs, manages parking at home events and offers Booster Club memberships for grandparents and alumni in order to generate revenue for Darlington athletics. Additionally, the Athletic Booster Club hosts various events to encourage attendance and/or demonstrate support and spirit for the 26 varsity athletic teams. Your participation as a member and a volunteer strengthens the program.

Monies received from the Family Fee, dues and fundraisers have been used to purchase video and practice equipment, sound system for the football stadium, waterboy hydration systems, a contribution of $125,000 towards the construction of the A.J. Huffman ’67 Memorial Athletic Center, repainting of the track surface, baseball complex enhancements, the addition of restrooms and other complex upgrades. Over the last few years, the Booster Club has also contributed $50 towards the purchase of each letterman’s jacket and $100 toward the purchase of state championship rings. Additionally, the Club funds the scholar awards that are presented seasonally during sports assemblies to the player with the highest GPA for each team.
