Darlington's Head of School Transition Process

June 30, 2014

Dear Darlington Community,

This is the fourth in a series of updates regarding the progress being made by the Head of School Transition Committee. This committee—comprised of trustees, parents and faculty/staff members—will assist Head of School Brent Bell and his family with their transition to Rome and to Darlington.

We are excited to share that today is Brent’s first official day in the office! He will be on campus for a short week (due to the Fourth of July holiday on Friday) before heading to the NAIS Institute for New Heads in Atlanta next week. The following weekend, his family will join him here at Darlington as they move into their new home at the Home-on-the-Hill. Brent will be back in the office the week of July 12.

One of Brent’s first priorities is to meet with each of Darlington’s faculty and staff members individually to get to know them and start building relationships. The committee and I think that this speaks volumes about the kind of leader Brent is and will be for Darlington. After all, teachers have been the cornerstone of Darlington School since it was founded and named in honor of a teacher in 1905.

We want to bring your attention to two upcoming events that will be great opportunities to meet Brent and his family. First, Brent and his wife, Andrea, invite you to attend the Purple Tie Affair on Saturday, Aug. 16, at Darlington’s Huffman Athletic Center. We look forward to kicking the school year off with this fun community event, which includes a dinner and auction to raise money for Darlington’s parent organizations. The Purple Tie Affair is for adults only, and we hope you can make it!

The second event is Darlington Day at the Rome Braves on Saturday, Aug. 23, at State Mutual Stadium in Rome. We hope to see a huge crowd of purple and white in the stands as we cheer on the Rome Braves in their 7 p.m. game against the Charleston RiverDogs. This family friendly event will be another fun way to introduce the Bells to the Darlington and Rome community. Event details and ticket information will be emailed to you soon. Make plans to attend if you are able – you won’t want to miss Brent and his sons taking the mound as Brent throws the first pitch!

Last, we want to thank you for giving the Bells such a warm welcome to the Darlington Community. They are excited to be here and we are thrilled to have them!

The Transition Committee will continue to work on formulating Brent’s calendar so that all members of our community will have an opportunity to meet him and his family. Please keep an eye on the Darlington calendar and watch for announcements of these opportunities.
