Liz Overberg

Previous Background
Liz has been a librarian at Darlington since 2011, previously serving as the Middle School Librarian, and now working with students in grades Pre-K to 8. She holds a B.A. in English Adolescence Education from the State University of New York at Fredonia and an M.S. in Library Science with a concentration in School Libraries from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Liz is also a certified English teacher. Liz is currently a book reviewer for School Library Journal, the world’s largest reviewer of books, multimedia, and technology for children and teens. She and her husband, Adam, live on campus, and she is a member of the Regester House duty staff.

The ELA-8 division of Darlington School will host two guest authors in the month of March. Authors Sue Sehgal and Patsy Smith Roberts will join students in the Joanne G. Yancey Library in Thatcher Hall to share selections from their children's books.

Several ELA-8 faculty members participated in the library's reading challenge this summer. These teachers tracked the days they read over the summer and won Barnes and Noble gift cards, with one grand prize winner receiving a Barnes and Noble Nook HD tablet.

Book Review: 'Absolutely Almost' by Lisa Graff (Middle Grade Fiction)

Darlington librarian Liz Overberg shares her review of her favorite new middle grade novel, "Absolutely Almost" by Lisa Graff. "Absolutely Almost" is the story of a ten-year-old boy named Albie who has never been good enough--never good enough for his school, or his parents, or the kids in his class. But with the help of his babysitter and some new teachers and friends, Albie begins to see that there are all kinds of ways that a person can be special, and that sometimes being "good" is much more important than being "good enough."
