Headmaster Tom Whitworth has been at Darlington since 2005. He holds a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a M. Ed. from The Citadel. With over 25 years of administrative experience, he served as founding headmaster of Flint Hill School in Oakton, Va., assistant headmaster and academic dean at St. Stephen’s School in Alexandria, Va., headmaster at Frederica Academy on St. Simon’s Island, Ga., and assistant headmaster and upper school director at Sea Pines Academy on Hilton Head Island, S.C. In addition, he has taught journalism, American history and English and has served as college counselor and athletic director. Tom and his wife, Margo, have three children and three grandchildren.

Headmaster Tom Whitworth announced today that Upper School Director Max Roach will leave Darlington at the end of the current school year to assume a new role as head of Jackson Hole Community School in Jackson, Wy.

L. Brent Bell appointed to be next Head of School at Darlington

Darlington School has appointed L. Brent Bell to be its next Head of School, effective July 1, 2014. He will replace current Headmaster Tom Whitworth, who is retiring at the end of the school year.

Darlington to move all grades onto one campus, sell Lower School property to Shorter

February 15, 2013

Darlington School has announced plans to move grades PK-4 to the main campus at the end of the current school year and sell its property on Shorter Avenue to Shorter University. The trustees of both institutions approved the agreement unanimously this afternoon.
