Beginners will learn the fundamentals, while more experienced wrestlers will receive a high level of instruction, including live drilling sessions. While there will be no dual meets, we will host an individual tournament at the end of camp. Wrestling Camp takes place on Darlington School’s 400-acre, college-preparatory campus, complete with a 96,000-square foot athletic center, natatorium, weight room, running trails, air-conditioned dormitories and the best camp food imaginable.
About the directors
Kelly McDurmon teaches and coaches at Darlington’s Upper School, and has been involved in the school’s youth wrestling program since its inception six years ago. His wrestling background began at age 12, so he understands the importance of developing fundamental skills at an early age. As a high school wrestler, McDurmon was a member of three state championship squads. He earned three area championships and two state titles as an individual in the late 80s. After graduating from Berry College, he coached his alma mater to two team state championships 2002 and 2003. McDurmon has coached in 25 state championship matches, helping his athletes win 14 state titles.
Wesley Styles graduated magna cum laude from Shorter University in 2001 with a B.S. in Chemistry. In 2010 he received a M.A. in Leadership from Shorter University. Currently he is pursuing his Ed. S. in Educational Leadership at Berry College. He has 10 years of experience teaching and nine years of experience as the head coach of Rome High School. In 2004, he was named STAR Teacher. He currently teaches the Physics First classes at Darlington Upper School. He has coached five state champions and numerous state placers in his time as head coach. Recently one of his former wrestlers finished 5th at the NAIA national tournament. Coach Styles loves coaching wrestling because he feels that it teaches young men the value of hard work and perseverance. His favorite thing to do when he is not working is to spend time with his wife, Miranda, and 2 year old daughter, Ava.
